Three ways Manchester United could line up vs Crystal Palace if Bruno Fernandes misses out - timelineoffuture

Man United captain Bruno Fernandes is a doubt for Monday night’s Premier League clash with Crystal Palace at Old Trafford.

Manchester United are sweating over the availability of captain Bruno Fernandes ahead of Monday night’s trip to Selhurst Park to face Crystal Palace in the Premier League.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference on Thursday, United manager Erik ten Hag described the Portuguese as a ‘doubt’ because of a hand problem. He has recently been wearing a protective cast and it remains to be seen if he will once again be able to play through the pain barrier.

Fernandes has never missed a United game through injury since joining the club from Sporting Lisbon just over four years ago, meaning it would take something extreme to force him to miss out. Ten Hag said the midfielder will “do his best” to be involved.

McTominay gets the nod

Like Fernandes, Scott McTominay is in a race to be fit for the trip south. He was forced off late on against Burnley last weekend with a hyperextension of his knee but was scheduled to feature in training on Saturday, suggesting his injury is not as serious as Fernandes’ ahead of this game.

McTominay has sharpened up his attacking play this season, netting 10 goals, meaning he would be a logical contender to replace United’s No.8. His forward runs get him into promising positions and offer them an extra attacking outlet.

If the Scot starts, expect Kobbie Mainoo and Casemiro to join him in midfield. The latter is expected to move back into a more natural role after starting the last three games at centre-back, with Jonny Evans in contention to return in defence.
