admin Man United are poised to announce the signing of Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna as their first acquisition of the 2024 summer window.
The Red Devils are going to pay around £36.5m in part-payments to the Italian side for the Dutchman. Zirkzee is being signed to provide competition to Rasmus Hojlund and add more variety to the attack.
The Manchester Evening News have listed some of the qualities that the 23-year-old forward is expected to bring at Old Trafford.
A source close to Bologna states that ‘He’s not a prolific striker but the kind of player who can excite fans’, while a scout claims Zirkzee is a ‘top link, good footballer. Drops back to play.’
The Dutchman is a technically sound forward who can use his 6’4’ build to hassle defenders and also move the ball past them with ease. He is expected to deliver ‘drive and determination’ to Man United’s attack, something Anthony Martial lacked.
Zirkzee is not an established goal-scorer, having scored 12 goals last season, but is someone who can keep Hojlund on his toes. The Red Devils envision him to be someone who can play across the entire forward line, meaning Erik ten Hag might play him out wide too if necessary.
The 23-year-old is expected to join the Man United squad after the first four pre-season games and will need to prove his fitness to make his debut in the Community Shield clash against Man City.
