Man Utd is a club with global support, which means anger towards the Glazers has spread to the United States.

You only feel the warmth of the fire when it gets close to your house and in the case of the Glazers, it is now on their doorstep. Watching their NFL franchise, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, suffer their first loss of the season to the Philadelphia Eagles, Kevin and Edward Glazer may have noticed a plane with a banner trailing behind it flying by over their heads.

From the padded seats inside Raymond James Stadium, they may not be able to understand what is being said because of its small size, but the “Glazer Out” message is now having a growing impact on the American coast, groups of Manchester United supporters from Tampa and Pittsburgh organized a flyover to protest the Glazer family’s wrongful ownership of the club. It’s unclear whether Joel and Avram Glazer will be at the stadium on Monday night US time.

They will certainly learn about protest in one form or another, but whether they care is another question. They should do it.

Protests against enamelware have long been held in Manchester and continue to this day. In June, fans temporarily blocked the entrance to the club’s supermarket during the launch of the new kit, a gesture of their frustration at the Glazers continuing to profit from United.

After a 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest, fans staged a sit-in to express their anger at the home team. More of this kind of action is bound to happen as long as the Glazers are around.

What the American billionaire family probably did not expect was that the disappointment would manifest itself right on their own territory. In July, during a pre-season tour of the United States, American United fans were seen participating in anti-Glazer protests before a friendly against Arsenal in New Jersey. It was a landmark moment, as was the #GlazersOut banner displayed on Monday.

Pressure continues to mount and is now spreading globally as the Glazers near a historic takeover. It has been 10 months since the board announced that the club was looking at sale options and it would be worth nothing if the process is not completed within a year.

However, there is an even greater fear. Contractor Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani fears the Glazers may ultimately decide not to sell, as do the fans.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe recently said it would be “brutal” not to take charge of Old Trafford after such interest. Both sides have every right to feel annoyed by the lack of movement the Glazers have shown after the many rounds of betting they have endured.

The Glazers’ lack of communication would eventually become fatal, even if their silence signaled a lack of enthusiasm for the proposals on the negotiating table. They will have to make decisions regarding the ownership of their club and prepare for the consequences that will follow if they make an unpopular decision.

What is clear is that they will not be able to evade visual resistance by using the cover of the Atlantic. The outrage from the fanbase has reached the United States and they will likely feel the heat from the United fanbase if they decide to keep their fingers crossed at Old Trafford.
