According to reports, Manchester United are ‘considering’ sacking Erik ten Hag due to their poor start to the 2023/24 season.

Ten Hag is the coach chosen to replace Ralf Rangnick after his dismal period as interim coach of Man Utd at the end of the 2021/22 season.

The Dutch player overcame many difficulties to have a successful debut season at Man Utd, helping the Premier League giant win the Carabao Cup and finish in the top 4.

There is a lot of optimism at Man Utd before this season, but that quickly subsided after their poor start to the new season.

The Red Devils have lost three of their opening five Premier League matches and were beaten 4-3 by Bayern Munich in their opening Champions League group stage match on Wednesday night.

This week it was reported that Ten Hag was “losing his dressing room” and that he was under a lot of pressure.

Spanish media agency Fichajes now reports that Ten Hag is “walking a tightrope” as Man Utd “goes through a deep crisis”.

Fichajes should be taken with a grain of salt because it is difficult for any less reputable Spanish media outlet to have reliable information about Ten Hag or Man Utd.

Despite their report claiming Man Utd are ‘concerned’ and ‘considering sacking’ Ten Hag if ‘the club’s momentum does not change in future matches’.

“The pressure is mounting” and an “immediate response” is expected when they take on newly promoted Burnley at Turf Moor this weekend.

Former Premier League striker Gabby Agbonlahor has taken the opposite route when approaching Ten Hag, with the head coach seemingly having “the safest job in the league” aside from Pep Guardiola and Mikel Arteta.

Asked if he thought Ten Hag’s job was in danger, Agbonlahor told Football Insider: “Not at all. He probably has the safest job in the league, apart from Pep and Arteta .

“Man United wouldn’t have sacked him, even if they finished outside the top 4 this season.

“What he’s done with the Ronaldo situation and started to regain respect at the club club, he did very well.

“Sancho’s situation is different, I don’t think he should have been removed. But what other coach could Man United recruit to bring them together?

“We need to give Hojlund a chance to adapt. Then, off the field they encountered the Greenwood situation, the Antony situation – and now the Sancho situation. It’s difficult to judge Ten Hag too much because of off-the-field issues.»
