Man Utd manager Erik ten Hag has been warned in pre-season he would be ‘heartbreaking’ as his plans for a ‘week from hell’ were revealed.

Ten Hag is preparing for a second season at Man Utd after helping them finish third in the Premier League and win the Carabao Cup in 2022/23. The Dutchman’s first year at United was a roller coaster but he managed to overcome the Cristiano Ronaldo saga, a rocky start and big defeats against Liverpool and Man City and enjoy a successful season.

After United’s 4-0 defeat by Brentford in their second division game, Ten Hag went old school and ran his players more than eight miles in training to make up for his poor performance.

Ten Hag are aware United need to improve this summer if they are to fight for the Premier League title next season. The Sun are now reporting that Ten Hag will “put the stars of United through what staff have described as a grueling training camp as they aim for a strong start to next season”.

The coach is “firm in his belief that lack of fitness is no excuse for his team.” “We expect him to be back behind the podium next weekend” and “we are planning four days of doubles sessions, with one more greater focus on building endurance across the squad.

”A Sun source said: “Last summer, Erik had participants do push-ups and other fitness exercises to exercise their brains.””Looks like some people are really heartbroken this time!””

Man Utd are expected to be busy this summer as Ten Hag overhaul their squad. With Mason Mount and Randal Kolo Muani appearing to be his preferred targets, the sale is necessary, with Fabrizio Romano revealing Alex Telles and Eric Bailly have been told they have been “cleared for departure”.

“Manchester United are preparing to take their first steps in the summer transfer market,” wrote Romano for Caught Offside.” Alex Telles and Eric Bailly have been put up for sale by the club and this is really interesting as Erik Ten Hag has no plans for a future Manchester United draft and has therefore been allowed to leave – the club know this is not the case with the two players the case is they charge high commissions and are therefore willing to sell them at low prices.“I don’t know exactly what the numbers will be, but I can say with certainty that they will be low, very low.

‘Which teams might be interested in signing Man United defenders? Portuguese clubs are interested in Telles and Bailly is followed by French clubs. Nothing has been confirmed or agreed yet: the race is still open.”
