Manchester United star Marcus Rashford has sent a farewell message to David De Gea, causing a stir on social media.

Rashford was one of United’s stars who took the time to pay tribute to De Gea after the goalkeeper’s departure.

The Spaniard announced on Saturday that he will leave Old Trafford this summer after 12 years with the Red Devils.

“I would like to express my unwavering gratitude and appreciation for the love from the last 12 years. We’ve achieved a lot since my dear Sir Alex Ferguson brought me to this club,” De Gea’s statement said in part.

According to Metro UK, the shotstopper’s decision to quit United came after the club failed to offer him a new contract after the expiry of his deal at the end of June.

As a result, his teammates at Old Trafford were quick to take to social media to send him a farewell message, with others reminiscing the fond memories they shared.

However, The Mirror reports that Rashford ended up committing a blunder in his Instagram post, with the forward’s message suggesting it was picked from the drafts.

“Caption ideas: You were here from my breakthrough, good luck with your next step brother,” Rashford’s initial post said.

The England international has since edited out the ‘caption ideas’ wording and kept the rest of the messaging.

Meanwhile, United have since embarked on finding a replacement for De Gea, with Inter keeper Andre Onana believed to be a top priority.
