Pep Guardiola has admitted he is ready to fight to keep Ilkay Gundogan at Manchester City beyond this season.
Gundogan’s current contract with City expires at the end of June after a historic season for both the player and the club, but Barcelona have made an offer to attract the 32-year-old to their second camp.
Guardiola recently revealed that sporting director Tsiki Begilstein was working on a new contract for the player, but despite their best efforts, 90min said Barcelona would secure his deal this summer. I believe that I have long had the confidence to do so.
Barcelona have offered Gundogan a two-year contract at the Camp Nou with an option for a further year. Officials also confirmed that the player’s family would like to live in Spain.
However, Guardiola is not yet ready to accept defeat and has announced that he will do everything in his power to prevent the City captain from leaving.
“We are interested in extending his contract and (Barcelona) are also interested,” said Guardiola at the Puma Legends golf tournament.
“I hope he stays with us. We are still fighting to keep him.
“If Barça sign him, they will have a great footballer. Xavi calls him often. I know that If he finally decides to join Barça, I will tell him that he will enjoy the club this summer. Barcelona are interested in the Portuguese international but may have to fend off interest from Paris Saint-Germain.
