Pep Guardiola has reportedly decided to leave Manchester City in 2025.
The Catalan coach became just the third manager in English football history to complete the treble on Saturday night. He secured a long-awaited first Champions League title for City for the third time in his career with a 1-0 win over Inter Milan in Istanbul.
But despite reaching the pinnacle of football glory, Guardiola is not yet ready to end his City career.
The Guardian reported on Monday that the City manager will retire permanently when his current contract, which he signed in November for a nine-year term, expires.
Guardiola has long aspired to be champions of Europe’s top four leagues, and there were high hopes that he would try to dominate Italian football after his stint at City.
The 52-year-old arrived in England in 2016, but many believed the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich manager was leaving on his original three-year deal.
However, Guardiola’s success and close ties to City prompted him to change his mind and dedicate his future to the club. After that, he could turn to coaching an international team.
Guardiola won his third consecutive La Liga title and two consecutive Champions League titles in his first managerial appointment at Barcelona. After a brief hiatus from football, he took over as manager of Bayern Munich, winning three Bundesliga trophies but missing out on Europe’s most coveted award.
He lifted the Premier League trophy for the first time at the end of his 2017/18 season. The feat was repeated in the next season. City have now won three in a row.
The manager will undoubtedly continue to demand outstanding performances from his players next season and will continue to deliver exceptional performances as they contend for the FIFA Club World Cup and UEFA Super Cup titles for the first time.
