The quiet start of Man Utd’s summer transfer window has been revived with the £60million signing of Mason Mount from domestic rivals Chelsea.

\Erik ten Hag’s first season at Old Trafford has been promising but the Dutchman’s strong start means expectations are higher for his second year. The club are said to have been operating under strict financial fair play restrictions this summer but were able to negotiate a lower transfer fee with Chelsea to bring Mount to Old Trafford.

The England international will play a key role at Ten Hag next season and beyond as evidenced by his salary at the club.

Mount has signed a long-term £80,000-a-week deal with Chelsea ahead of his 2019/20 season under Frank Lampard.

His salary paled in comparison to some of his Blues team-mates as the 2022/23 season got underway and he turned down an offer of just over £200,000-a-week extension from the West London club due to the length of their contract and the image rights.

Mason Mount’s reported Man Utd salary

Mount’s reported weekly wage at United will exceed the amount offered to him by Chelsea. The Red Devils are said to have offered the England international a deal worth £250,000-a-week which could rise to £300,000 if performance-related add-ons are met.

Thus, the Chelsea academy graduate will earn a base salary of £13m at United. However, Mount doesn’t come close to being his new club’s highest-earner.

With a weekly salary of £250,000 and a salary of £13million, Mount is now United’s fifth-highest earner, although the table above includes David de Gea’s previous £375,000-a-week contract.

De Gea is currently a free agent after his contract expires and it remains to be seen if he will stay with the club next season. The Spaniard has foreign prospects but could stay at United on heavily discounted terms as United sign a new number one this summer.

With De Gea currently away from the club, Jadon Sancho is the highest-paid player to have signed a £375,000-a-week contract when he arrived in 2021. Raphael Varane earns £340,000 while Casemiro’s weekly salary is £300,000 having signed for the club last summer.

Mount’s reported salary equals and exceeds Bruno Fernandes of Anthony Martial (£240,000), Antony (£200,000) and Marcus Rashford (£200,000).
