Mason Greenwood has beaten his own personal record for goals and assists in a single season after scoring twice for Getafe on Saturday.

Greenwood struck the opening goal for Getafe against Almeria on Saturday in La Liga and then netted again after the half-time break to make it 2-1 to the visitors. Jaime Mata went on to make it 3-1 to Getafe with an asisst from Greenwood. The Manchester United forward’s contributions means he’s now in his best ever season for goals and assists in his career. Greenwood now has eight goals and six assists in 2023-24 – beating his previous best of 11 in a single campaign with Manchester United in 2019-20.

Greenwood is back on target after a run of four games without a goal for Getafe in another influential performance for Jose Bordalas’ side. The Manchester United loanee will spend the rest of the season with Getafe but his future after the end of the campaign remains unclear. The forward has been linked with a host of clubs, including Juventus, and is not expected to play for Manchester United again. Getafe president Angel Torres has already said he would like to keep hold of the forward but it remains to be seen if he will stay with Jose Bordalas’ side.

Bordalas spoke about Greenwood’s future ahead of the game. He told reporters: “We haven’t spoken about it yet. He’s in the same situation as the other loanees. When the season is over, it will be time to get down to work to see if Mason will be able to stay another year or not. It will depend on his club and the decision he makes.”

Getafe and Greenwood finish off their La Liga campaign with games against Athletic Club, Cadiz, Atletico, Alaves and Real Mallorca. Greenwood will be hoping to boost his tally of goals and assists even further before his loan spell ends.
