Arsenal got their pre-season campaign underway with a clash against the Cherries at the Dignity Health Sports Park.

In a low-tempo first half the Gunners took the lead courtesy of Fabio Vieira’s superb volley. They headed into the second half having made just one change which saw Martin Odegaard replace Salah-Eddine Oulad M’Hand.

Karl Hein: A big save from Ouattara got Rekik out of trouble. Could do little about the goal. Deserved a clean sheet for how he improved as the game went on. Two great saves in the shoot out to become the hero. 8.

Ben White: A solid display from the England international. There’s plenty of competition for places, but it’ll take some shifting to get him out of the right-back spot this season. Unlucky to see the ball deflect off him for the equaliser. 7.

Jurrien Timber: Came off too early for a second half rating. n/a.

Ayden Heaven: Came off too early for a second half rating. n/a.

Myles Lewis-Skelly: Came off too early for a second half rating. n/a.

Thomas Partey: Came off too early for a second half rating. n/a.

Martin Odegaard: The phrase a rising tide floats all boats fits Odegaard’s introduction perfectly. Instantly raised the level of Arsenal’s play with the ball. Looks on it even at this early stage. 8.

Ethan Nwaneri: A little quiet but showed his ability with an effort from range that was unlucky to be blocked. 6.

Fabio Vieira: Came off too early for a second half rating. n/a.

Eddie Nketiah: Came off too early for a second half rating. n/a.

Reiss Nelson: Came off too early for a second half rating. n/a.

SUBSTITUTES:

Omar Rekik: Difficult cameo for the youngster. Hein got him out of jail after his slip allowed Ouattara in, but losing the ball in midfield for Semenyo’s goal was naive, even if he was unlucky with the deflection. 4.

Jakub Kiwior: Looked very composed on the ball – an underrated part of the Polish international’s game. Nice link up when playing out. 6.

Oleksandr Zinchenko: Some nice link up to create a good crossing opportunity for Odegaard. Good on the ball throughout and decent defensively. 6.

Jorginho: A constant option at the base of midfield for Arsenal where he offered security in front of a youthful backline. 6.

Charles Sagoe Jr: Lively after coming on. Lacked a bit of composure in the final third. 6.

Gabriel Jesus: Some really nice touches from the Brazilian who linked the play superbly in his preferred number nine position. 7.

Leandro Trossard: One decent shooting opportunity where he might have taken it first time instead of having a touch. Decent link up aside from that. 6.

Josh Nichols: Came on too late for a rating. n/a.

Jimi Gower: Came on too late for a rating. n/a.
