Marcus Rashford offers worrying update as he speaks out over ‘months and months of abuse’ after being booed by Man United fans

Marcus Rashford has delivered a worrying message to fans on social media, revealing that he has endured ‘months of abuse’, with Man United supporters pinning some of the blame on YouTuber Mark Goldbridge.
The 26-year-old forward has had a difficult season on the pitch, failing to match the achievements of his 30-goal haul during the 2022-23 campaign, scoring eight times so far across all competitions this season.
Goldbridge runs a fan channel called The United Stand, which has 1.85million subscribers on YouTube. He has recently released several videos in which he criticises the England star, notably once referring to Rashford as ‘about as useful as a wheelie bin with no wheels.’
In the early hours of Friday morning, Rashford responded to a post on X (formerly Twitter) that said the criticism he has received was unfair. The post read: ‘The way Marcus Rashford is being treated is absolutely disgusting. It’s cruel. It’s abuse.’
The United forward wrote back claiming that he was tired of the abuse he has received in recent months. ‘I appreciate your support! It is abuse and has been for months. Enough is enough,’ Rashford said.

Another appeared to reflect the same sentiment, writing: ‘Its in Rashford’s contract to start every game according to Mark Goldbridge. Claims like this are so toxic.’
Rashford has also recently hit back at some fans who have questioned his commitment to Manchester United. Earlier this season the forward missed training after going on a 12-hour tequila bender in Belfast.
‘Listen, I’m not a perfect person,’ Rashford wrote in an article published in the Players Tribune. ‘When I make a mistake, I’ll be the first one to put my hand up and say I need to do better.
‘But if you ever question my commitment to Man United, that’s when I have to speak up.
‘It’s like somebody questioning my entire identity and everything I stand for. I grew up here. I have played for this club since I was a boy. My family turned down life-changing money when I was a kid so I could wear this badge.’

In a first-person piece published in The Times, Melanie Maynard said her son struggled to come to terms with the loss of his cousin Nathan last year, which followed the death of a ‘very good family friend’, Garf, in 2022.
Ms Maynard has defended Rashford, insisting the heartache he has suffered has contributed to his issues both on and off the field.
