Man United made a winning start to the new Premier League season, defeating Wolves 1-0 at Old Trafford.
Manchester United got their 2023/24 Premier League season off to a flying start with a 1-0 win over Wolves at Old Trafford on Monday night.
Central defender Raphael Varane scored the only goal of the game in the 76th minute, giving Erika a maximum of ten Hag points. Despite an encouraging result, the Reds were beaten all evening. Wolves excelled in their first game under new boss Gary O’Neil and would have won all three runs had they brought their shooting boots.
They scored for United and gave Andre Onana plenty to think about in his competitive debut for the club. But he was incredibly lucky to miss a penalty in the second half of added time. The Cameroonian met Sasa Kalajdzic which resulted in a VAR review.
To everyone’s surprise, however, there were no penalties, meaning United retained all three points and continued their long unbeaten run at Old Trafford.
Fernandes gives honest verdict on Wolves win
Bruno Fernandes admitted that United did not know what to expect from Wolves following their 1-0 win at Old Trafford this evening.
United got their 2023/24 Premier League campaign off to a winning start thanks to a 76th-minute header from Raphael Varane. The Frenchman rose highest inside the box to connect with Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s centre.
The statistics make poor viewing for United this evening. However, they got three points and that is what matters most.
A lot of improvement needed, mind.
Wolves' tally of 23 shots tonight was the second most in a Premier League away game at Old Trafford in recorded history (since 2003-04).

Only Chelsea (25) in November 2005 have attempted more in a PL game away against Man Utd.

Varane nets the winner
It was ugly and uninspiring, but goals win games and United got the only one of the game. Varane rose highest to net the winner.
