Man United lost to Galatasaray in the Champions League at Old Trafford and this is the players’ assessment.

Manchester United lost 3-2 to Galatasaray at Old Trafford in their Champions League match on Tuesday night.

Rasmus Hojlund scored twice but United struggled defensively and former United player Wilfried Zaha scored on his return. United’s evening got worse when Casemiro was sent off and conceded a penalty. Mauro Icardi missed the penalty but scored a few minutes later to redeem himself.

Manchester Evening News editor Samuel Luckhurst was in the press room at Old Trafford to cover the match and here are the player ratings for the match.

Andre Onana

Beaten by Wilfried Zaha’s deflected equaliser and very unconvincing with his hands again when he almost gifted Galatasaray an equaliser. He gifted Galatasaray a penalty and made it easy for Mauro Icardi. 3

Rasmus Hojlund

Started the night with a spirited run, scored his first Old Trafford goal clinically and his second was even better. A terrific all-round centre forward performance. 8

Mason Mount

Worked tirelessly and had two goalscoring opportunities in the first half. Forced a straightforward save from Fernando Muslera in the second. 6

Marcus Rashford

Did brilliantly to assist Hojlund but this was another sub-par performance and his confidence is so low he botched a fabulous chance to make it 2-1 when his square pass failed to reach Fernandes. Subbed. 5

Diogo Dalot

Got bullied by Zaha in his Palace days and this was worse as he allowed the ball to bounce twice before deflecting it past Onana. 5

Raphael Varane

Not at his most commanding and the centre halves went missing for Davinson Sanchez’s hoik that Zaha smuggled in. His distribution was poor. 5

Victor Lindelof

Made a key interception and block either side of the interval. An improvement on his general form this season. 5

Sofyan Amrabat

United suffered in the absence of a specialist left-back again. As determined as Amrabat was, he did not look a natural and it showed for Galatasaray’s second goal. 4

Casemiro

Sprayed a fine pass for Marcus Rashford that led to the opening goal but off the pace too often again and his inability to track cost United another goal. Sent off trying to clean up Onana’s mess. 4

Bruno Fernandes

His night started with a casual flick towards goal and did not get much better. Wasteful with the ball and sought to blame others far too often. 3

Hannibal Mejbri

Put himself about but again struggled to have an impact when he had the ball and made way for Christian Eriksen at half-time. 5

Subs

Christian Eriksen

Created a great chance almost immediately. 6

Alejandro Garnacho

An upgrade on Rashford. 7

Antony

Came on with United down to 10 men. 5

Anthony Martial

Close to scoring. 6

Manager

Selected a logical team but Rashford did not perform, bar the first goal. United improved with Eriksen on for Mejbri but then imploded. 5
