Pep Guardiola and Manchester City have suffered a significant increase in injury numbers ahead of Saturday’s Premier League clash against Nottingham Forest.

The Triple Crown winner, who suffered another injury on Tuesday night, is suffering from a number of injuries to his starting XI as Bernardo Silva was added to the growing list of players sidelined in midweek.

The Portugal international was substituted before half-time in the UEFA Champions League game against Red Star Belgrade, becoming the fifth player from Pep Guardiola’s side to suffer an injury in the opening weeks of the season.

Manchester City failed to make the bench in midweek for the second week in a row; John Stones, Mateo Kovacic, Jack Grealish and Kevin De Bruyne missed the 3-1 win against Red Star Belgrade.

Julian Alvarez’s goal and Rodri’s impressive finish led to a breakthrough in the second half as Manchester City went from behind just before half-time to defending their Champions League title with a win.Bernardo Silva’s injury poses a new selection problem for Guardiola as Nottingham Forest will travel to the Premier League’s Etihad Stadium on Saturday afternoon ahead of their Carabao Cup game against Newcastle at St James’ Park.

Manchester City remain unbeaten in the Premier League and can extend their winning start to the season to six games by beating Steve Cooper’s side this weekend.

Forest were beaten 6-0 on their last visit to the Etihad Stadium but have had an impressive start to the season, finishing eighth and recording wins over Sheffield United and Chelsea.

Jack Grealish, who missed Manchester City’s two previous games against West Ham and Red Star Belgrade, could get a chance to play next weekend in what would be a welcome addition to Guardiola’s squad.

The 28-year-old was spotted training with Manchester City’s first team on Wednesday as they began preparations for the weekend at the City Football Academy.

Grealish, who left the England squad due to injury, has made four appearances for the Sky Blues this season.
