Elsewhere, Julian Alvarez continues being linked with a move away from the Etihad. The Argentina international enjoyed a productive second season, stepping up during Kevin De Bruyne’s absence and when Erling Haaland was out injured.

Alvarez then had to settle for a place on the bench when both returned, which has fuelled speculation over whether he could leave to be a first choice elsewhere. The Athletic claims that his first-choice destination is Real Madrid amid links to Atletico Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and Chelsea.

The report adds that he has been open to a move for ‘several months’, though a move to the Spanish giants is ‘not going to happen’ this summer. Speaking to ESPN while on international duty with Argentina, he said: “These are things that are said, but I am calm. I am comfortable and happy at City. We will see what happens.”
