Man Utd will make a second bid for Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund after their first offer fell short, according to reports.

The Red Devils are desperate to sign a new striker this summer as they still look for a replacement for Cristiano Ronaldo, who left the club at the end of November following a controversial interview with Piers Morgan.

They did bring in Netherlands international Wout Weghorst from Burnley in January with the former Wolfsburg striker joining until the end of last season.

Weghorst didn’t impress and has returned to Burnley with Man Utd now looking for a big upgrade up front to help Erik ten Hag take the club to the next level.

Man Utd have been linked with Napoli’s Victor Osimhen, Tottenham’s Harry Kane, Benfica’s Goncalo Ramos, Eintract Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani and Atalanta’s Hojlund, among others.

And The Sun have revealed that Man Utd are ‘preparing a second bid of £40m’ in an effort to sign Hojlund from Atalanta this summer after their ‘bargain-bucket bid’ of £30m was rejected by the Serie A side last week.

The 20-year-old has made headlines this season with impressive performances for club and country with nine goals and two assists in 32 appearances for Atalanta, despite only There are 20 matches in which the main kick.

There are numerous reports that the Red Devils only have £120m to spend this summer, of which around £60m has already been earmarked for Mason Mount’s impending arrival from Chelsea.

This gives them a very limited budget for subsequent transfers, with no major sales, except for many of their ideal targets like Osimhen and Kane.

In order to raise funds, Ten Hag has ordered Man Utd management to sell Harry Maguire, Scott McTominay, Anthony Martial and Fred this summer. Maguire, who is believed to be valued at around £35m, fell apart at Old Trafford when left-back Luke Shaw started him at centre-back last season.

Man Utd are said to be asking for £40m for McTominay and another £15m for team-mate midfielder Fred, while Fulham are interested in a second player.

And The Sun adds that the Premier League side are ‘now listening to offers’ for Martial, whose price is set at £25m, with Man Utd ‘desperate’ to offload all four players to raise around £115m.
