Man Utd release statement after new 2023/24 kit was leaked at Glastonbury; Manchester rapper and United fan Aitch wore the previously unconfirmed shirt on the Pyramid Stage.

Manchester United saw their new 2023/24 home shirt leaked on Saturday, three days ahead of its official launch, when rapper Aitch wore it on stage at Glastonbury for the world to see.

Usually when kits are leaked a few days ahead of schedule it will be much more low key, often a sportswear shop accidentally displaying it early. It relies on keen-eyed fans to spot them and share. But there can be no mistaking it when a performer at the world’s biggest music festival is wearing a shirt live in front of thousands upon thousands of people – and millions more on TV.

Since then, social media has been filled with photos of United’s new kit before either the club or adidas unveiled it.

United couldn’t ignore the hype and confirmed that the shirt Aitch wore was indeed the one worn by Marcus Rashford, Bruno Fernandes, Ella Toone and Leah Galton in the Premier League, WSL and the two soon from next season Champions League competitions.

“Our new home shirt was first seen on Saturday when longtime United fan and Manchester native Aitch wore it with pride during his acclaimed performance on the iconic Pyramid Stage in Glastonbury,” read the club’s statement also contains a somewhat superfluous teaser.

United also tried to remind fans of the June 27 release date.Club have confirmed that the Rashford is the most popular men’s team jersey sold by United Direct for the 2022/23 season.

The 30-goal striker was followed by new signings Casemiro, Lisandro Martinez and Antony in second, third and fourth.

Fernandes finished fifth, ahead of teenage stars Alejandro Garnacho and Christian Eriksen in seventh, continuing his almost miraculous career comeback after suffering cardiac arrest in 2021.

The most popular jersey for the women’s team was that of England star Toone, who wears the number 7. Followed by Katie Zelem, goalkeeper Mary Earps and the aforementioned Galton.
