admin According to Sky Sports Deutschland, Manchester United are still struggling to sign Bayern Munich defender Benjamin Pavard despite renewed interest from Manchester City.
Pavard has now reached the final year of his contract with Bayern and it looks like he could leave the club soon. Previously respected journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Manchester City have the Frenchman high on the list of candidates for a new right-back and could try to sign him alongside Kyle Walker, who is considering a move to Bayern.
Sky Sport Germany have confirmed the interest of Pep Guardiola’s team but add that there are no agreements yet. They mention that Manchester United and Juventus are the other two top teams in the race to sign the £26million star.
Quality players
Pavard has made 162 appearances for Bayern since joining from Stuttgart four years ago. The Frenchman has mainly played as a right-back for giants Monaco but can also play in central defence. His overall quality would mean a huge boost for any top European club. United and Man City are both in search of the former Lille graduate but Pavard could personally assume he could get more minutes with him. United currently have Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka at right-back, while Raphael Varane and Lisandro Martinez have established themselves as their first-choice centre-backs.
In comparison, Pavard could get more starts for Guardiola and City. The Premier League winners did very well in the second half of last season with their 3-2-4-1 formation and Pavard excelled in the role of right centre-back. He sees himself more as a central defender and would easily fit in with the English champions.
Despite ties to United and Juventus, City are on the verge of signing Pavard due to Bayern’s apparent interest in Walker. Bayern could prefer the deal as they could sign Walker and receive a transfer fee for Pavard’s move in the opposite direction.
