Man Utd legend Edwin van der Sar in intensive care after suffering brain haemorrhage

Former Dutch international goalkeeper Edwin van der Sar was on holiday on a Croatian island when he was taken ill and rushed to hospital, with former club Ajax issuing a statement.
Former Manchester United, Ajax Amsterdam and Netherlands star Edwin van der Sar was hospitalized in Croatia on Friday after suffering a brain hemorrhage.
The 53-year-old former goalkeeper was on vacation in the countryside. He collapsed and was taken to hospital by helicopter. He remains in intensive care and his first 24 hours are considered critical.
Former club Ajax sent a message of support after hearing the news. Their statement read: “On Friday, Edwin van der Sar suffered a brain haemorrhage. He is currently in the intensive care unit and is said to be in a stable condition.
“We will update you as soon as we have more specific information. All at Ajax wish Edwin a speedy recovery.

Mr. van der Sar said on Thursday at Carpe Diem Bar on the island of Hvar that his daughter had a family night out with Lynn and friends, who also had a photo shoot with DJ Tom Chambers at Laganini the day before.
Van der Sar won the Champions League during his stints with Ajax and Manchester United. He also reached the semi-finals of the 1998 World Cup with the Dutch national team.
United sent their own message. It reads, “Sending all our love and strength to you, Edwin.”
He has also lost two Champions League finals to English clubs, and his last game before his retirement was the 2011 final against Barcelona.

“Get well soon, Edwin. The entire world is thinking of you,” the Serie A account added. Van der Sar spent two seasons in the Italian top tier, representing Juventus, and also spent several years with Fulham immediately before his Old Trafford stint.
This is the second time that the Van der Sar family has been affected in this manner. In December 2009, almost 14 years ago, his wife Annemarie suffered a brain haemorrhage during Van der Sar’s time as No.1 at Old Trafford.
