Graeme Souness said he hoped not to embarras Sir Alex Ferguson by revealing the huge sum of money he had pledged to help fight EB.

The generous Sir Alex Ferguson has shown he has a “heart of gold” with a generous charity drive that brought Liverpool and Newcastle United legend Graeme Souness to tears.

The former Manchester United manager has donated £20,000 to a Sounessa Channel Swim fundraiser to support charity Debra, which helps people with the rare skin condition Epidermolysis Bullosa (EB).

Souness told talkSPORT: “I hope I don’t embarrass him by saying this but Alex Ferguson has donated £20,000 after asking me for half an hour. This man has a heart of gold.
