Man City’s Etihad Stadium to host Euro 2028 matches after successful UK and Republic of Ireland bid

Manchester City’s home ground will host matches of the 2028 tournament, with the UK and Republic of Ireland now confirmed as hosts.

Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium will host matches at the 2028 European Championship after it was confirmed the UK and Republic of Ireland will host the tournament.

The candidacy was confirmed on Tuesday at the UEFA meeting in Switzerland. It went ahead without objection after Türkiye, the sole remaining bidder, withdrew from the process last week.

Part of the bidding process is for the host to draw up plans for the 10 stadiums that will host the matches. And the Etihad is billed as one of six grounds in England.

Wembley has also been proposed along with St James’ Park, Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, Villa Park and Everton’s new Bramley-Moore Dock site.

Elsewhere in the proposals, Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland would each have one stadium.Hampden Park in Glasgow, Principality Stadium in Cardiff, Aviva Stadium in Dublin and Casement Park in Belfast have been proposed.

The 2028 European Championship will take place during June and July and is the first full major international tournament to take place in England since Euro 96. Wembley to host delayed 2020 championship final in 2021.
