When celebrating his 24th birthday, Pep Guardiola said of Alvarez: “Julian is amazing so he’s an extraordinary player and many things help us.

Previous reports in Spain last month suggested Man City had already rejected an approach from Atletico Madrid for Alvarez.

The report from Marca added that part of the reason behind Alvarez wanting to move was due to his understanding that he would always be behind Haaland in the pecking order at the Etihad.
