Another selection dilemma for Arteta comes on the left wing. Both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard are options for the Spaniard but it’s unclear at present who shall start from the off.

Both players have been handed two starts over pre-season, with Martinelli scoring against Manchester United and Trossard netting against Bayer Leverkusen. Martinelli did not have the best of campaigns last season and the Brazilian will be keen on returning to his brilliant best in the coming months. Trossard may have other ideas and has proven to be a great signing since arriving from Brighton for £27million in January 2023.

Kai Havertz has been deployed both in the striker role and as a central midfielder throughout pre-season. The German performed well in the No.9 position at the back end of last season and showed he can score goals when required.
