Manchester City have confirmed the £55.5m signing of Belgian winger Jeremy Doku from Rennes.

Jeremy Doku says he can make Manchester City even better after sealing his £55.5m transfer to the club. Doku (21) is City’s third newcomer this summer after Mateo Kovacic and Josko Gvardiol.

The Blues are also interested in a new midfielder, with Matheus Nunes and Eberechi Eze both options. Doku’s arrival offers plenty of options following the departure of Riyad Mahrez, while Kevin De Bruyne’s five-month absence hampers attacking options.

After signing a five-year deal with City, Doku said he wanted to develop as a player and help his new club win more trophies.

“I am a young player with so much learning and improving to do. Working with Pep and his staff, and playing alongside these work-class players, will make me a much better player. I feel sure of that,” he said.

“Watching City last season was amazing. To win the Treble is the hardest thing in football and they did it. You cannot imagine how exciting it is to be joining this team. I cannot wait to get started. Hopefully I can make the fans happy.

“I am very excited because with a top coach, I can only be a better player. I am quick, I am strong, I like to dribble, technique, those are my abilities that I like to rely on. I think the way I dribble, my speed, those are things that I can add to the group.

“Of course, the group is already a top group with a lot of top players, but I think that I can add that to the group. My dribbling skills, my speed and my creativity, those are the things I can add.”

Doku will take the number 11 shirt at City, last worn by Aleks Zinchenko, and says he feels ready to play in the Premier League for his new side.

“I am very excited. The Premier League is a league that I always watch with my Dad and my brother,” he explained. “On a Sunday evening [we watch] Match of the Day. I think it is a league that suits me. It will be a perfect match.

“I always knew that the Premier League was made and built for me. Until now, I played in Belgium, I played in France and I think those were the right steps to prepare me for the Premier League.”

“I cannot tell you now that I am ready as we will have to see. But I am really confident and have confidence in myself, so I think with the help of the coaches and team, we will be good.

“When you win three trophies in one year, you have a lot of pressure. I think the pressure is on the team and now I am going to be part of the team, so there will also be a lot of pressure on me. I like pressure and people will give their all because we are now the team to beat. I think that is a good thing.”

“My goals are to fit well in the team and win more trophies, because I don’t have any trophies yet! But I am sure that with this team we can win a lot of trophies, so that is my goal.”
