Gabriel Martinelli has revealed Arsenal know they only need one thing to beat Manchester City, even without star man Bukayo Saka inside Emirates Stadium. Supporters were then a bit worried when they learned that Bukayo Saka would not be able to play.

Much has been said about who in the Arsenal squad is the most irreplaceable. The loss of William Saliba at the end of last season proved crucial and only highlighted how a lack of depth in specific positions has cost the club time and time again.

Therefore, Saka not being able to play in what is, for me at least, Arsenal’s biggest game of the season is a huge blow.Mikel Arteta needs to develop the depth of his squad and do even more than he has been given. Jurrien Timber will be out for most of the season and Gabriel Martinelli and Thomas Partey are only fit enough for the bench.

Saliba was even found to have an injury that prevented him from playing for France this month. The Arsenal team suffered blow after blow, but their inner confidence was not damaged by these defeats and that was evident in the words of the match winner.

We heard from Gabriel Martinelli after the match when reporters asked him if he would have won without his wide teammate. His answer was perfect.

“We know our potential,” he said. “We know how important he is for us.

“We know his potential. Today we did our best, tried to win the game for our fans, for us and for B as well.”

That they did. The performance of the collective was critical and everyone had to pull their weight, as did those coming off the bench – the four substitutes combined for the goal itself, just highlighting what depth the Gunners indeed do have.

“When you play for Arsenal you have to always believe and this is what we do,” Martinelli added. “We play for Arsenal and we always believe we can win titles.”

The talk of this club was repeated in numerous answers from the Brazilian. Since signing his new deal earlier this year, you can get a real sense of the attachment and belonging that the winger has with the team – he gets it.

“We are Arsenal and we are always believing about the title,” he said when asked about the belief to go on and win it after beating Man City. “To win against a big side like them is great. We just need to carry on.”

And carry on they will. After the international break the club travel to Stamford Bridge to face a Chelsea side who will need to be ready to play the Gunners who will have Martinelli, Partey and, hopefully, Saka, back after a two-week rest.
