Harry Maguire looks unlikely to have a future at Old Trafford having seen the Manchester United captaincy stripped off of him by Erik ten Hag and Premier League sides are interested in signing him.

Harry Maguire has been slammed for “making life difficult” for Erik ten Hag while he plans a return to Manchester United. The England defender found himself in a difficult situation at Old Trafford.

Since the arrival of Ten Haga from Ajax, Maguire has fallen down the club hierarchy. Last season he fell behind Lisandro Martinez and Raphael Varane while his chances of playing football regularly are no better this season.

Maguire was removed as the club’s captain and replaced by Bruno Fernandes. A number of Premier League clubs have expressed interest in rescuing the former Leicester star from his current quagmire.

Tottenham were linked earlier in the summer when West Ham turned down a £20m offer for him. However, Maguire is keen to stay at United and fight for a place in the team.

Former England defender Stuart Pearce remains a fan of the centre-back and has warned him against returning to action with Ten Hag. Speaking to Sportsbeat, he said: “If I were Premier League manager I would do everything in my power to bring Harry Maguire to my football club.

” Compared to what he portrays as a player, his age, his experience, he has good ball skills and is able to score goals in the opponent’s penalty area – I don’t see any negative points.Personally, I would do everything in my power to get him out of United if I were a manager at another club. It says a lot when Ten Hag doesn’t say, “I want Harry Maguire to continue.” It shows that his approach to training is perfect.

“He sees his worth – he doesn’t see him as a first-team starter but whenever you need a game seeing out, he puts Maguire in the heart of defence to make sure they keep the ball out the net.

“When he comes off the bench in the 85th minute, he gets straight into the game. He does the job the manager wants him to do and that says a lot about his character.

“Knowing Harry, if he stays at United, he’ll do everything he can to make life uncomfortable for Ten Hag with his performances to get back into the team.”

Maguire, now 30, still has two years left to run on his contract with Man United, whilst there is an option for a further campaign. West Ham still appear keen to seal a deal for his services.

According to The Independent, former Red Devils’ boss David Moyes has made a personal plea to West Ham’s board to seal a deal for Maguire. It is claimed that he wants to make him one of two signings before the end of the transfer window – the other being Southampton star James Ward-Prowse.
