Harry Maguire has broken his silence after being left out of England’s final squad for Euro 2024.

United defender Maguire is one of seven players from England’s 33-man preliminary squad to fail to make the cut.

Jack Grealish, James Maddison, Curtis Jones, James Trafford, Jarell Quansah and Jarrad Branthwaite are also set to be axed when Southgate announces his final squad for the tournament in Germany.

Maguire has not played since April due to a calf injury and has been training away from the rest of the England squad on an individual programme in the hope of making the tournament.

“I still thought there would be a space for me in a 26 man squad as I feel I bring something different & had been a mainstay in this whole qualifying campaign for Euro 2024 in Germany but the manager has made the decision and I have to respect that.

“I’ll be back, I have no doubt. Wishing the boys all the luck in the world out in Germany, unbelievable group and lads that I literally call some of my best friends. I genuinely hope football comes home.”

Southgate is expected officially confirm his final 26-man squad for Germany at a press conference on Thursday evening.

England face Iceland in their final warm-up match on Friday night.

After facing Serbia in their opening group game next Sunday, the Three Lions take on Denmark on June 20 and Slovenia on June 25 in their remaining group matches.
