Arsenal have to plug a hole in their midfield ahead of the North London Derby against Tottenham on Sunday – and Cesc Fabregas has a cunning plan to replace Martin Odegaard

The North London Derby is fast approaching as the international break finally fades into view – and it will be a huge weekend for Arsenal.

The Gunners face Tottenham on Sunday afternoon after a bruising two-week break that Martin Odegaard and Riccardo Calafiori return with injuries. Arsenal’s captain will miss the Spurs match, and with Declan Rice also out due to suspension, Mikel Arteta has a lot on his mind.

Arsenal opted against Osimhen
Like many clubs in the summer, Arsenal were looking for a striker. And like many clubs, they didn’t end up signing one, despite letting Eddie Nketiah leave.

They were linked with Sporting’s Victor Gyokeres and Napoli’s Victor Osimhen but decided to steer clear. Osimhen attracted interest from Chelsea, Paris Saint-Germain and Saudi Pro League side Al-Ahli before joining Galatasaray on a season-long loan deal.

We’re now told the obvious: that the Nigeria international was simply too expensive for Arsenal to seriously consider. It would have cost them more than £100million to sign Osimhen and they were ‘never prepared’ to pay that kind of fee.
