Manchester United star Marcus Rashford was questioned about his football IQ at one particular moment during the disastrous 3-1 home defeat to Brighton.

United suffer a third defeat in five games, continuing their poor start to the Premier League season, after being largely dominated by Roberto De Zerbi’s side at Old Trafford.

Goals from Danny Welbeck, Pascal Gross and Joao Pedro sent the Seagulls into dreamland and United could only receive late consolation through youngster Hannibal Mejbri, who ultimately suffered his first defeat at home after 20 matches.

And Rashford’s talisman has been criticized. The England international has been criticized for his lack of effort when the away team have the ball.

But he was also called out for displaying a lack of footballing intelligence. Early in the second half Rashford had the ball down the left flank and squared up his defender.

He went past him and made the decision to shoot with his left foot, hitting the side-netting. But Rashford did not get his head up to see that Rasmus Hojlund had made a run to the far post and even slid in hope that he would receive the cross.

The Dane loves to make that very same movement and a fan has shared footage of him scoring from a carbon situation for Atalanta.

He attracted many other supporters, including one who said: “The fact that Hojlund pointed out where he would be and where he wanted the ball as soon as Rashford received the ball annoyed me even more.”

A second said: “Just growing up Rashford can see how Man City people work for Haaland.”

A third agreed: “It’s absolutely ridiculous. These bad decisions happen so often for a club at this level, you start to wonder if ETH doesn’t see it coming and not training them to do better.”

The fourth person did not hesitate to write: “Man City players will not do that, that pass will be made and put into the net. This is why they are champions. Rashford only thinks about himself and wants to become a star. Must have been dropped by Ten Hag.

A fifth person chimed in: “Do you think Rashford is following him? Lol.He assumed that every other spot in the box was a decoy to shoot at. “

One end user simply added: “What a selfish player in Rashford. “

Rashford scored for Hojlund in the first half and the former Copenhagen man thought he had opened the scoring for the club, but the goal was denied after the ball went out.

United, who lost three of their first five games for the first time since 1989, they turn their attention to the Champions League when they face Bayern Munich on Wednesday.
