Arsenal have been linked with a surprising interest in Manchester City’s attacking midfielder Bernardo Silva, but according to Fabrizio Romano, if he departs the Etihad Stadium this summer, he’s more inclined to move abroad.

Romano, speaking exclusively to CaughtOffside for his latest Daily Briefing column, addressed the unexpected transfer rumors involving Silva and Arsenal, mentioning there’s no concrete development at the moment.

While Arsenal might benefit from adding attacking players this summer due to dips in form from Gabriel Jesus and

Gabriel Martinelli, it appears unlikely that City would sell Silva to a title rival.

However, Silva does have a release clause, so Arsenal could activate it, taking the decision out of City’s hands.

According to Romano, it appears more probable that the 29-year-old would relocate abroad, with the journalist mentioning Barcelona as a potential suitor for him.

Bernardo Silva Transfer: Romano on Unexpected Arsenal Links

“Arsenal did well when they signed both Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko from Manchester City almost two years ago, and now there’s been speculation from some outlets about them trying again to raid City, this time for Bernardo Silva,” Romano stated.

“Sorry to disappoint any Arsenal fans who had gotten their hopes up, but I have zero information on Arsenal and Bernardo so far, to be honest. The Portugal international’s release clause is there for £50m, but obviously, Man City don’t want Bernardo to stay in the Premier League and play for one of their rivals.

“My expectation for Bernardo, if he does leave City this summer, is to go abroad. As I reported recently, Barcelona’s interest has always been there, and we know from what Joao Felix said publicly that he’s spoken to Bernardo about the move.”
