A new advertisement campaign for Erling Haaland’s partnership with popular mobile game Clash of Clans will aim a cheeky dig at Manchester United legends this week.

At the end of last month, Clash of Clans unveiled a surprise new character in Manchester City’s star striker Erling Haaland, with the Norwegian forward becoming the ‘Barbarian King’ in the game.

The 23-year-old Norway international, who personally admitted he is a long-time fan of Clash of Clans, also said that becoming a playable character in the game was “really cool”, with the City forward’s character becoming the first in the game to be based on a real person.

Taking over the main billboard at the entrance to the Printworks is Erling Haaland’s advert for Clash of Clans, featuring the text, ‘He stole your trophies’. A remarkable coincidence given the timing of Manchester United’s docu-series premiere perhaps?

Manchester City became just the second team in English football history to win the elusive Treble, following up their Premier League title success over Arsenal last season with an FA Cup and UEFA Champions League victory in successive weekends at the end of the last campaign.

This time around, City were unable to replicate their success, but do find themselves on the verge of a repeat of their domestic double victory, with the Premier League title destiny still in their hands, and an FA Cup final repeat against United looming at the end of the season.
