Erik ten Hag could make a bold decision by leaving a regular Manchester United player out of his squad to face Manchester City.

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag is said to be considering leaving Casemiro out for this weekend’s derby with neighbors Manchester City. The Brazilian star could be left out of the starting lineup even if he is healthy enough to play.

Casemiro has started every game in all competitions for United this season ahead of Saturday’s trip to Sheffield United. He missed the match at Bramall Lane due to a minor injury while on international duty.

The 31-year-old remains in Brazil to recover from injury but will return to England this week. Casemiro is expected to miss Tuesday’s Champions League home match against Copenhagen due to suspension.

He was sent off in the final group match against Galatasaray. But there could be worse news for the former Real Madrid star this weekend.

United host Man City at Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon in a crucial clash. But GiveMeSport claim that Ten Hag are considering dropping Casemiro from their squad even if he proves his fitness.

Casemiro has almost become first choice for Ten Hag since signing him during his first spell in management. But he could face the ax in his biggest game of the season so far.

The report says Casemiro’s form so far this term is a “major concern” for Ten Hag. Scott McTominay and Sofyan Amrabat started in midfield on Saturday and both were able to keep their places.

McTominay has made himself virtually unbeatable after scoring three goals in his last two appearances for United, including a late brace against Brentford before the international break. Amrabat was forced to play at left-back in his first few outings with his new club, but tried his luck in midfield on Saturday.

Ten Hag hinted that he was not entirely satisfied with Casemiro’s form after replacing him with Christian Eriksen at half-time in the comeback win over Brentford. Regarding his replacement, Ten Hag said: “I want more football.

“One who brings passing, distribution, link-up play. So I thought bring Christian Eriksen for Case.”

Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has been a vocal critic of Casemiro this season. Last week he told Covering Liverpool: “I think Casemiro’s legs have gone.

“I noticed it last season at Anfield and I didn’t like what I saw. It took me back to watching Fabinho last year for Liverpool. I want to be the first to say it, I don’t want to say it when everyone else is saying his legs have gone.”
