Eric ten Haag is reportedly ready to welcome Mason Greenwood to the Red Devils Manchester United squad.

The 21-year-old Greenwood has not played for United since January last year. That was before he was arrested and subsequently charged with assault involving attempted rape, control and coercion, and actual assault.

In February this year, the Royal Prosecutor’s Office confirmed that the charges against Greenwood had been dropped after key witnesses withdrew their involvement and “new material came to light”. However, the striker remained suspended after United said they would initiate a full internal review before making any decisions about their long-term future.

Mirror Football understands that Greenwood’s fate may ultimately rest with those involved, including the Red Devils’ women’s team and commercial partners. Now, The Sun reports that ten Haag are “delighted” to add the 21-year-old to their squad for next season.

United’s owners, the Glaser family, have finally made a final decision and are reportedly expected to make a decision next week. Some members of the club’s women’s side want Greenwood out, while some former team-mates are said to want him back.

Greenwood’s return is likely to cause a major backlash against United, as club officials are concerned about the impact of his return on sponsorships and commercial deals. The Bradford-born player’s contract runs until June 2025, suggesting the Red Devils could try to loan him to a foreign team next season.

Ten Hag has not commented on Greenwood’s situation and said the decision was not his. When the charges against the academy graduate were dropped, the United manager was asked if he could shed some light on the club’s internal review. “No. Nothing,” Ten Hag replied. “I have nothing to add. I refer to the club’s statement.”
