The reason for David de Gea’s return to Manchester appears to have been revealed after some fans hoped he would return to replace the struggling Andre Onana.
The reason former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea is returning to Manchester appears to have been revealed – and some fans won’t be happy about it.
De Gea was released by the club at the end of his contract worth £375,000 a week, ending 12 years with Old Trafford. He made 545 appearances for the club, the Red Devils’ seventh all-time record.
The Spaniard is yet to sign for another club and is currently a free agent, sparking speculation that he could return to the Red Devils amid Andre Onana’s debts. Fans were excited about the prospect earlier this week when it was reported that the Spaniard would be returning to his old Manchester club.
The pair are close and Reguilon previously revealed that De Gea helped convince him to join United in the summer. He said: “I spoke a lot with David and he told me about the club. He told me that you are coming to the best club in England. All these players are legends over in Spain. I follow a lot of the Premier League.
“David will always be a legend here, he told me about the club, the people here, the training ground, the stadium, the fans, everything. He said they are amazing, unbelievable. He only has amazing words.”
De Gea was also spotted in attendance at United women’s 1-1 draw against PSG in the Champions League on Tuesday night, showing his love for the club hasn’t run dry. De Gea turns 33 next month and is understood to be relaxed about his future despite being without a club now for over three months.
