David de Gea posts cryptic message amid uncertainty around Manchester United future

David De Gea says he feels ‘thoughtful’ amid growing speculation about his future at Manchester United.

United’s goalkeeper’s contract officially expires at the end of June but could be extended for another season, though it remains to be seen where he will play next season.

The 32-year-old had a rocky season, conceding 17 goals to win the Premier League’s Golden Glove Award, and also won the Carabao Cup in February.

But he has also been widely criticized for making a number of spectacular mistakes, most recently for having saved Ilkay Gundogan’s Manchester City winning goal in the FA Cup final.

His ball distribution and ball handling skills are also under scrutiny and Eric ten Haag has always stressed that he wants a goalkeeper who can use his feet as well as his hands.

As a result, there have been conflicting reports as to whether he will remain at Old Trafford. He also wanted to stay with the Red Devils, who he joined in 2011, and new terms were agreed on a new deal.

However, some argue that his mistake should force the club to reconsider signing a new contract with the Spanish player, but whatever happens, a new goalkeeper could be signed this summer.

Brentford’s David Raya and Porto’s Diogo Costa have been closely linked but there is much interest in both shot-stoppers.

In the meantime, it seems that De Gea is still pondering over his next move, tweeting out a cryptic message as he enjoys the start of the off-season.

‘Relax. Recharge. Contemplate,’ he wrote, accompanied by a video of him wading through the sea somewhere.

Elsewhere, United have been dealt a huge blow in their pursuit of Napoli defender Kim Min-jae, with PSG now reportedly the frontrunner to sign him.

However, Napoli are attempting to offer the 26-year-old a new contract that will update or remove his £50million release clause that United are hoping to trigger this summer.
