Andre Onana joined Manchester United from Inter Milan after David de Gea left the club as a free agent.

Ben Foster believes Andre Onana was ‘unable’ to react furiously at Harry Maguire in a friendly against Borussia Dortmund.

Summer signing Onana came out of the box in United’s 3-2 defeat at Allegiant Stadium and bemoaned Maguire’s reaction to United losing the ball in a dangerous area.

After the game, Onana justified his anger by saying that he was demanding of everyone in front of him. “He’s tall, he holds the ball well, so I expect a lot from him. He’s a good boy, I have a good relationship with him,” said the 27-year-old.

Former United goalkeeper Foster, however, believes any professional player would consider it ‘out of order’ during a friendly.

“I saw that thing with Maguire and I didn’t like it one bit,” he told the United Stand. “I don’t think it’s necessary. I get it, you’re annoyed but it’s a pre-season friendly. You don’t need to go shouting and raving.

“I guarantee you, every player in any dressing room up and down the country will have seen that and gone ‘nah that’s bang out of order.'”

Onana is one of three big signings at United, with Mason Mount and Rasmus Hojlund joining Chelsea and Atalanta respectively. Erik ten Hag’s summer spending tops £160m but heavy investments from Premier League rivals will make this season tougher than ever.

The Dutchman led United to third place and the Carabao Cup in his debut season but Foster sees no improvement. “I think it’s going to be really difficult,” he added. “I think fourth, I think they will be fourth. It’s a good season, you know, I’m not kidding. I rank in the top four. If they had Harry Kane, they would have finished second.
