Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is delighted to take on a leadership role on the pitch, but it is unclear who will be the captain of the Old Trafford team next season.

Harry Maguire is currently wearing the armband. However, the England international is believed to be set to resign after breaking the pecking order with the Red Devils. For this reason, Bruno Fernandes is considered the front-runner to succeed England.

Casemiro, however, has expressed his desire to become his captain to the Sun media. The Brazilian international wants to be a role model for others to follow on the pitch.

“I like having this role. Being a leader, caring, being like a father, going after things. I like to set an example, be the first to arrive. I like to play this role.

“The captain’s armband is nothing more than a symbol but the players have the responsibility to talk to the referee, to the players. I like to be that example player.”

The 31-year-old is mulling over bringing United to the pitch next season. The former Real Madrid star is not used to the role as he wore the armband of the national team.

Casemiro is one of the most experienced players in the team at the moment. The Brazilian had a successful few years at Madrid, winning multiple La Liga and Champions League trophies before moving to Manchester.

The 31-year-old was key to the Red Devils’ success last season. He gave our engine compartment that much-needed quality. In the midfielder’s absence, Eric ten Haag was unable to reach the full potential of his team.

Maguire was sent off by the Dutch manager last season. As a result, Fernandes has been wearing the captain’s armband for most of the 2022/23 season and is arguably a perfect fit.

The Portuguese players are very tenacious on the pitch and often work for us. Unfortunately, he also cuts out the frustration when things don’t go our way.

Tenhag has a big decision to make. You can choose between two quality options, Casemiro and Fernandes. So it’s good that those responsible have a headache.
