Supporters were left baffled after Manchester United’s Andre Onana was seen putting vaseline on his goalkeeper gloves during his side’s 2-2 draw at home to Liverpool.
It isn’t the first time that Onana has put vaseline on his gloves as he was also seen doing so during the game against West Ham in December.
As explained by GloveGlu on X, vaseline is sometimes used by goalkeepers in wet conditions, which makes the glove palms extremely grippy.

Anyone spot this behind Onana’s goal?

Only problem? It completely ruins the glove latex! Fine if you’re Onana, not if you don’t get a new pair every game! #MUNLIV pic.twitter.com/faA8NgsLOY

They wrote: ‘Why is Onana putting Vaseline on his gloves??’.
Meanwhile, another added: ‘HOLD ON. Why is Onana putting Vaseline on his gloves??????? what am I missing?????’.
Furthermore, another user wrote: ‘Why’s Onana just put Vaseline on his gloves? Surely that won’t help grip the ball’.
In addition, another stated: ‘Is there a benefit of Vaseline on goalie gloves cos why did Onana whip out a whole tub’.
Liverpool took the lead on Sunday through Luis Diaz before Bruno Fernandes capitalised on an error to equalise for United.
Kobbie Mainoo subsequently put the hosts in front but Mohamed Salah levelled for Liverpool with a penalty in the 84th minute.
Onana has featured in all 31 of United’s Premier League games so far this season and has kept eight clean sheets, while he has conceded 46 goals.
