A worrying new trend is emerging among a minority of Manchester United fans. Every time you concede a goal, people say David de Gea could have saved it.

United were always at risk of revisionism as they carried out a belated overhaul of their goalkeeping department this summer, with Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir joining the team while De Gea and Dean Henderson were sold. Over the years it was clear that De Gea was in decline, but he retained his iconic status thanks to his legendary status at a club that looked past his many faults and focused on his undeniable world-class shot-saving skills.
