Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag would have liked what Rasmus Hojlund was filming after Denmark’s latest victory in the Euro 2024 qualifiers. Denmark have taken a big step towards the Euro 2024 tournament in the summer until beating Finland 1-0 at the Olympic Stadium in Helsinki on Sunday, and Hojlund’s post-match actions spoke volumes.

The 20-year-old striker was again introduced as a second-half substitute after coming off the bench in the 4-0 win over San Marino earlier this week.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg scored the decisive goal to help Denmark surpass Finland to finish second in Group H, behind leaders Slovenia on goal difference.

This leaves the country in control, with favorable matches against Kazakhstan, San Marino and Northern Ireland in the final four.

After the official match, despite his youth, Hojlund led the match against the away team in Helsinki.

With a megaphone in his hand, United’s £72million new boy rallied the supporters with an emotional speech.

Hojlund passionately shouted: “I heard you all, and your passion is everything in football. We are going to the f***ing Euros! F***ing come on!”

Ten Hag has regularly emphasizedits desire tohave strong characters and players ready to compete for tophonorsinitsteam.

So Hojlund taking the lead against an experienced Danishside – including Old Trafford team-mate Christian Eriksen – willcertainlyplease his manager.

“Theseare the characters we need: we need playerswhoarehungry, and he is a player who is very determined to score goals, winmatches and win titles,” Ten Hag explained after Hojlundarrive.

He added: “He’s a realleader, very direct towards goal. A very good presser, goodphysicality and I think to balance this team we need that.

“Nextto Rashford, [he]is another player who is direct and capableofscoring, and that’s all hethinksabout: he wants to score.

“I think he has such a huge potential, and now it is up first to him to explore that, and we will support him – all the coaches.

“I’m sure the whole team was waiting for a type like him, and they will integrate, and in the dressing room or on the pitch, they will help him.

“But as I said, finally, the player – he has to prove it.”

Hojlund made his United debut after recovering from a back injury in last Sunday’s 3-1 defeat at Arsenal.

The Red Devils’ new No 11 is expected to start against Brighton and Hove Albion on Saturday when he will play before the Old Trafford faithful for the first time.
