“I need to do what’s right for me” – Kyle Walker offers update on new Man City contract talks

Kyle Walker is set to sign a new Manchester City contract, but nothing has been formally announced after a summer of transfer uncertainty.

Kyle Walker wants to spend “many more seasons” at Manchester City but has expressed disappointment that his new contract has not yet been signed.

Walker’s current contract expires at the end of the season and he considered a move to Bayern Munich in the summer before deciding to stay at City. He recently admitted that the length of the contract on offer was a key factor in choosing Man City and he is expected to sign a new contract until 2026.

However, there has been no move regarding regarding the announcement of this new contract, and Walker was asked on Saturday whether he would like to sign a new contract with Man City.

Walker has just scored his first international goal for England in his 77th match and is discussing his situation at Man City following the Euro 2024 qualifying draw with Ukraine.

“I have an obligation to fulfil my contract,” Walker told Sky Sports. “Obviously things haven’t gone for whatever way. Whichever way you want to look at it, it’s not happened.

“But I’m a Manchester City player. I want to stay at this club for as long as possible. I need to do what’s right for me personally and that’s to stay at the top for as long as possible.

“There’s a lot of ex-players have told me, once you start coming down it is difficult. If I can fulfill this season and many more, hopefully at Manchester City, that will be fantastic.”

Walker told reporters after City’s win over Fulham that his new contract was expected, he said: “There’s an extension coming up. This is my seventh season here and I feel like one of the old ones – that’s me, Kevin [De Bruyne], John [Stones].

“I love this place, I’ve experienced things I only dream of here – especially last season – so why did you do that? want to leave a club like this. It’s about the person who gave me the most years, isn’t it. like I’m going to a worse club because Bayern Munich is a big club and looking at what Harry [Kane] is doing there and will do, it’s not a step back, it’s just something that makes I have many years of contract to play football at the highest level.

“In my heart I always wanted to play for Man City, but I had to do what was right for myself and my future and this is the club that has given me the most years.I still think my legs have a lot of life left and I want to continue playing football.

“It was close but in football things can happen. Decisions can be made. Things can change.”
