Manchester United star Marcus Rashford wants to score more headed goals and have confidence in his left foot

Manchester United striker Marcus Rashford is keen to continue improving his game by adding headers and increasing the use of his left foot.

Of the 76 goals the England international has scored in 239 Premier League games, just seven have come from a header. 58 goals with the right foot and 11 with the left foot (Premier League stats).

For a player who plays on the inside wing or the number 9, versatility on late chances is key to confuse defenders at all times.

When opponents know Rashford is only strong with his right foot, they can block him and give him the opportunity to shoot from the left or win aerials in the box.

The 25-year-old talks about in detail and mentions the two areas of his game he needs to improve going forward (h/t The Overlap, via Manchester Evening News):

“I think there’s always elements I can add to my game and it’s important to work on your strengths. You want to get your weaknesses as good as they can get, but they are more often than not always going to be a little bit behind your strengths.

“Mine [weaknesses] are my left foot and heading – I always want to work on them. My heading is getting better, but I feel like I should score more because I out jump most people. If I’m in the position in the right areas in the box, I should be getting seven to ten headed goals a season – I feel like I can do that, and I’ll be pushing to do that next year.

“For me, my left foot is just about confidence and when I’m confident I’ll score with it. When I’m not confident, it just never goes right on my left foot.”

It’s quite refreshing to see an elite player figuring out where to improve in order to put even more pressure on opposing defenders.

Rashford had an outstanding season last season, scoring 30 goals and providing 11 assists in 56 appearances in all competitions.

His goals were crucial as United finished third in the league after six years and lifted the trophy. The Red Devils strengthen their front line with Rasmus Hojlund.

However, with Rashford impressive, he was under pressure to repeat the dose next season and become United’s central attacking force.

The 25-year-old is reaching the peak age of his career. If he gets no major injury, we can expect him to fly high in a United shirt in the next 4-5 years.
