Manchester United have decided when and how to confirm the signing of Rasmus Hojlund from Atalanta after the striker moved a step closer to finalising his transfer by passing a medical.

Last week, Man Utd finally agreed a transfer fee with Atalanta to sign Hojlund after making him one of the striker’s prime targets for the summer transfer window.

Since then, the focus has been on transfer tuning. Hojlund has already undergone medical tests at Man Utd, according to the Manchester Evening News.

This means there are only three things left to do before we can officially confirm arrival. In detail, the remaining steps concern the organization of the visa, the registration and the contract.

Once all is well Man Utd can announce him as the summer’s latest signing. According to the report, they are looking to announce their signing during the penultimate pre-season friendly against Lens on Saturday at Old Trafford, which starts at 12.45pm.

This would be a similar strategy to what they’ve been using for the Raphael Varane and Casemiro ads for the past two years, respectively. Each player paraded in front of their new audience during the game.

In Hojlund’s case, the timeline of announcing his arrival has changed after he landed at Manchester Airport later than planned on Tuesday.

But he has now got through his all-important medical checks without any problems surfacing. He is set to sign a five-year contract at Old Trafford with the option of a further year.

Man Utd buying potential over proven talent with Hojlund

As he is now 20 years old, the new conditions may allow him to live to be 25 or 26. In other words, he will see the pivotal years of his development at Man Utd.

Last season’s EFL Cup winners are paying a pretty steep price – £64m plus £8m men’s bonus – for a player of Hojlund’s track record to date, but they feel justified by his potential.

Hojlund will leave Atalanta after scoring 10 goals in 34 games. Previously, he had scored five goals in 32 games for Copenhagen and 12 goals in 21 games for Sturm Graz.

At international level, Hojlund has scored six goals in as many appearances for Denmark.

While he may not be as high profile a target as previous objectives like Victor Osimhen or Harry Kane, Hojlund has the trust of Man Utd to lead their line as Erik ten Hag prepares for the second season of his project.
