Gianluca Di Marzio says Atalanta striker Rasmus Hojlund will turn down a higher salary from Paris Saint-Germain to join Manchester United.

The Denmark international has been identified as a priority target for the United forward this summer. PSG are also in the running for the 20-year-old’s signing but Di Marzio reports that despite the Parisians’ better salary offer, Hojlund is prioritizing a move to Old Trafford.

Di Marzio says the next few days could be crucial and the deal could be reached by Sunday. Atalanta currently wants 80 million, including bonuses from the former Sturm Graz star, but the Red Devils expect an agreement of 70 million plus surcharges.

United have clear upper hand in Hojlund pursuit

Premier League rivals Chelsea recently missed out on signing Manuel Ugarte from PSG after the French champions offered the Uruguayan a higher weekly salary.

The Premier League giants tried a similar strategy against Hojlund but the Dane made it clear he wanted to play for United. He has already agreed to the terms of a contract worth 86,000 euros per week.

Now it’s up to United to find an agreement with Atalanta. The Red Devils should be confident in the club-to-club ranking that they can do this by a small margin.

In our opinion, a good middle ground can be found for around 75 million euros. The price is significantly higher, but manager Erik ten Hag really believes in Hojlund’s potential.

The Dutch tactician believes he has the ‘perfect’ profile to lead the club’s attack and could be a ’20-goal striker a season’.

Only time will tell if it lives up to the price. Hojlund is a powerful striker with a strong presence in the air.

He likes to engage in tackles and can even get behind the defense with his pace and dribbling skills. He has what it takes to become an elite forward in just a few seasons. The Dane could prove to be a great investment for the next decade given its high ceiling.

Hojlund to Man Utd

Ornstein further states that PSG are also eyeing a move for Hojlund but the forward is eager to move to Old Trafford ahead of next season.

Meanwhile, talksport has reported that Man Utd are closing in on a deal to sign Hojlund after reaching ‘advanced’ negotiations with Atalanta.

Having joined Atalanta last summer, Hojlund enjoyed a promising debut campaign in the Serie A last term, scoring nine goals and registering two assists in 32 league appearances.

So, it appears after being impressed by his displays for Atalanta, Man Utd have decided to register their interest in signing the youngster ahead of next season.
