RB Leipzig centre-back Josko Gvardiol has reportedly ‘asked to leave the club’ so he can ‘join Manchester City’ this summer.

The 21-year-old is widely considered to be one of the best young defenders in Europe. So, it’s no surprise to see Pep Guardiola interested in him.

Manchester City are also set to lose one of their key centre-backs this summer. Therefore, the manager must provide him with a replacement.

Football365 reports that despite interest from Tottenham Hotspur, Aymeric Laporte can’t wait to return to Spain. As a result, Man City’s signing of Gvardiol, their number one defensive target, has become more urgent. The Croatia international also wants to join the Etihad this summer.

So claims the SZ Sport, which claims that Gvardiol “officially informed RB Leipzig that he wants to move to Manchester City”.

This came after Gvardiol allegedly agreed to “personal terms” with the Cityzen. It only remained to negotiate the transfer fee. However, the German club are not leaving the defender cheaply and have priced him at €100m (around £86m).

If that price is reached, he will become the most expensive defender ever, surpassing Harry Maguire, who was bought from Manchester United for £80m.Gvardiol made 41 appearances for RB Leipzig in all competitions last season. During that time he kept 14 clean sheets and scored three goals.

In addition, he has already completed 21 international matches for the Croatian national team. There is no doubt that he can perform at his best.

But despite Gvardiol being Guardiola’s favorite target, he’s not the only defender on Man City’s radar. The South Korean international is ready to agree to a transfer to Bayern Munich. However, Man City reportedly made a last-minute bid to seal the deal.

Min-jae would also be a significantly cheaper supplement than Gvardiol. This is due to the release clause in his contract which means he can be bought for £42million.

Manchester United were on the verge of signing Min-jae. However, they seem to have withdrawn from the negotiations.

With that in mind, it will be interesting to see if Man City make a record-breaking bid for Gvardiol. Or when, at the age of eleven, they try to accept Bayern Munich’s offer for Min-jae.
