Manchester United ‘have told Harry Kane to put in a transfer request’ at Tottenham in order to force through a move.

According to The Sun, United want Kane to express his desire to leave despite Tottenham insisting that the striker is not for sale.

United have been left frustrated in their pursuit of the England captain, who they value at £80million while the asking price is £100million.

Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy is reluctant to sell him cheaply to rivals, but Kane, who has a year left on his contract, wants the move to happen.

United are keen to sign the forward but don’t want the situation with Kane to drag on.

Kane came close to joining Manchester City two years ago but a deal ultimately failed to materialise.

He has scored 280 goals in 435 appearances for Tottenham.

If United are unable to sign Kane then it is likely that they will focus on other targets, such as Atalanta’s Rasmus Hojlund.

Atalanta are demanding a fee of £86million for Hojlund, who is also the subject of interest from Chelsea.

Hojlund has recently signed a short-term representation deal with agency SEM, who also represent Manchester United manager ten Hag

United have also been linked with Eintracht Frankfurt’s Randal Kolo Muani but face competition from Bayern Munich.
