Paris Saint-Germain are planning a new attacking partner for Kylian Mbappe this summer as they battle Manchester United for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.

United’s main target is Napoli striker Osimhen, who tops the club’s forward list. Red Devils scouts watched the Champions League match between Napoli and Milan in April and had been planning to move the Nigerian since last summer.

Osimhen said in March that it was his ‘dream’ to play in the Premier League amid growing links to a move to Old Trafford. United then sent scouts to monitor the forward’s play. He led Napoli to an impressive Serie A title, scoring 31 goals in all official matches.

However, signing the Nigerian international would cost a hefty transfer fee, potentially exceeding £130m. Napoli leader Aurelio De Laurentiis is notoriously a tough negotiator and is under no financial pressure to cash out his most valuable assets.

PSG could fund blockbusters this summer. The departure of Lionel Messi and Sergio Ramos has contributed to a significant reduction in personnel costs. This has been somewhat offset by the arrival of Manuel Ugarte, Marco Asensio and Milan Skriniar, but more players are expected to leave.

One such departure may be superstar striker Neymar, but forward Hugo Ekticke is on loan. The French champions need a boost in attack, and Le Parisien could be planning a move for Osimhen, according to reports.

Mbappe has played mainly centrally in PSG’s attack, but he would be more comfortable playing central striker for France, as Olivier Giroud was. This could come at club level with Osimhen, who has previously indicated that he would like to move to England.
