Manchester City forward Julian Alvarez is said to be considering whether to leave the Etihad this summer.

Chelsea and Paris Saint-Germain are reportedly among his potential suitors with the Cityzens expected to sell if a bid of around £80m is tabled.

The news about Alvarez has come as a surprise to supporters, with many still hoping that the Argentinian international will stay with the Premier League champions.

Press the next page as we go through some of the reasons the 24-year-old may be better off staying where he is.

1) Alvarez is not guaranteed to get more game time elsewhere

2) He could still learn more from Guardiola

3) Alvarez fits City’s style of play

The Premier League champions dominate the ball and it gives forwards like Alvarez plenty of opportunities to score and create chances for others.

You only have to look at what has happened to Raheem Sterling since he left for Chelsea to see what can happen.

The England international still scores goals and provides assists but he is far less effective than he was at the Etihad.

Playing for a team that fits your style of play is an underrated factor that players should take into consideration.

4) Competition with Haaland

One of the reasons cited for Alvarez becoming unsettled is the fact that he can’t see himself playing ahead of Erling Haaland.

The Norwegian international is a year younger than his teammate and Guardiola has tended to start him ahead of Alvarez in the No.9 position.

Even so, as already mentioned, the Argentinian forward has still managed to start 39 games. It not only shows you that the manager has faith in Alvarez but he is playing to a standard that the coach has found hard to ignore.

The striker has risen to the challenge of competing with Haaland. He hasn’t been left in his shadow by any stretch of the imagination.

5) City are the place to be to win trophies

If Alvarez joins a club like Paris Saint-Germain, he could win a fair few league titles and domestic cups but, as we have seen over the last decade, they have struggled on the European stage.

One of the factors for that is the lower standards of the French top tier. Ligue One is nowhere near the level of the Premier League.

Alvarez would be moving down a rung on the ladder, and not gaining much else in the way of titles. In terms of Chelsea and other interested clubs like Atletico Madrid, the fall would be even greater.

The Argentinian international may start for them regularly but there is no guarantee of success on the pitch. City are arguably the best team in the world right now so why would you want to leave?
