A popular member of the Arsenal first-team squad has announced he will be leaving the club this summer

Mohamed Elneny has confirmed he will be leaving Arsenal this summer upon the expiration of his contract.

Elneny, who is currently the club’s longest-serving player, will leave as a free agent after eight years spent in North London.

The Egyptian midfielder has only featured six times in all competitions for the club this season due to injury issues and competition for places, though has made a total of 161 appearances for Arsenal throughout the course of his lengthy stay.

Announcing to supporters he will be moving on to following Sunday’s home clash with Everton, the 31-year-old has taken to social media to share a heartfelt video message to fans.

Beginning his farewell speech, Elneny began: “Gooners, I’m here today to send you a message and to say goodbye and thank you for everything you have done for me; the love, the support and the kindness.

“I am really going to miss you so much and you will be in my heart forever. I wanted to say how much I love you and how much you mean to me. I will never forget the way you supported me. I am going to see you on Sunday at Emirates Stadium to say goodbye face-to-face. See you, Gunners.”

Mikel Arteta’s side will be hoping to give Elneny the send-off he deserves on Sunday by winning the Premier League title, though the Gunners are reliant on West Ham United getting a result against Manchester City to make this possible.

City currently lead Arsenal by a single point at the top of the table and will become the first side to win the English top flight four years running if they get over the line this weekend.
